Dr. Eleanor M. Green is Senior Advisor and Consultant for Animal Policy Group, following 11 years as the Carl B. King dean of the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Science. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP).
She received a Bachelor of Science (BS) from the University of Florida and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Auburn University. She established a veterinary practice in Mississippi as partner/owner. She became a founding faculty member of the newly approved College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University and contributed to the development of all aspects of a burgeoning veterinary college.
Her other academic appointments have included: clinician scientist at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine; Head of the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences and Hospital Director of the Large Animal Hospital at the University of Tennessee; Chair of the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences and the Chief of Staff of the Large Animal Hospital at the University of Florida; dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University.
She has delivered presentations across the nation and internationally on veterinary healthcare innovation, leadership, topical issues facing veterinary medicine, equine welfare issues, human animal bond, and diversity. She has also presented on subjects related to her clinical and research interests, such as equine endotoxemia, gastritis/ulcer disease, and neonatology.
Dr. Green established the first Office of Diversity within the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVM) at Texas A&M University. In 2019, the CVM received its third consecutive HEED Award (Higher Education Excellence in Diversity). Dr. Green also served as the first Chair of the President’s Council on Climate and Diversity at Texas A&M University.
In 2016, she established the first of its kind Veterinary Innovation Summit (VIS) at Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences in partnership with the North American Veterinary Community and its Veterinary Innovation Council. The VIS has become a successful annual event.
She previously served as president of four national organizations: the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC); the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP); the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians (AAVC); and the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP). She currently serves on the boards of directors for Mars Petcare, PetDesk, Clinician’s Brief, and Lead Changes.
Selected awards include: Award of Distinction from the University of Florida College of Agriculture and Life Sciences; Wilford S. Bailey Distinguished Alumni Award from Auburn University; Women‘s Progress Award for Administration; Distinguished Achievement Award for Administration at Texas A&M University; induction into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame; 2020 VMX ICON Award; and 2020 AAVMC Billy E. Hooper Award for Distinguished Service.
Dr. Green has a special interest in the future of veterinary medicine and the innovations that will help ensure a thriving profession.
