Christie Long, DVM
Chief Medical Officer at Modern Animal
Biography
Dr. Christie Long started her career designing software solutions with databases and data visualizations to solve problems. Feeling burnt out and in search of more meaning, she took a year off from her career to backpack around the world and along the way met a shaman in the Peruvian rainforest who told her she was a healer. The idea seemed preposterous at the time but after a lot of reflection, she returned home and started a path that would lead her to earning a DVM from Colorado State University.
She spent seven years in small animal general practice before becoming Chief Veterinarian at PetCoach, one of the first veterinary telehealth companies. That business was later acquired by Petco, and after working to build two concept stores in the San Diego area centered around the idea of a retail location with a membership model that provides the pet owner with everything they need to take the best care of their pets, she left in 2019 to help start Modern Animal, where she serves as Vice President of Medicine. There, she and her team integrate technology with veterinary medicine to help improve veterinary care delivery in the physical and virtual setting for all participants— the pet, the client, and the veterinarian.
